Flying Camel Joins Forces with Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga-Dufferin on Tiny Homes Pilot Project

Project will provide innovative housing solution to address housing needs for Indigenous communities and empower youth with skilled trades experience.

BURLINGTON, ON. (September 27, 2021) – Burlington-based public relations, advertising, and design firm – Flying Camel has joined Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga-Dufferin (HFHHMD) to support the launch and execution of Habitat’s innovative Tiny Homes pilot project. The program will provide high school students in the Halton region with invaluable hands-on skilled trades experience while helping move forward innovative housing options and solutions that are in line with Habitat’s vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. The first five completed homes will become part of a tiny home village developed and operated by the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nations as part of their housing strategy to increase the stock and quality of affordable housing. This pilot program is the result of a collaborative partnership between the first nations community, Habitat Grey Bruce, and HFHHMD.

Flying Camel will support HFHHMD with securing product donations, public relations, and promotions around the Tiny Home project in addition to social content and channel support to build awareness on the initiative and all that it stands for.

“We’ve been looking for a pro bono opportunity that fits our agency’s core values, causes of interest and allows our team to contribute to a meaningful project. The opportunity to partner with HFHHMD checked every box and couldn’t be a better fit,” says Leanne Wood, President of Flying Camel. “We partner with brands that challenge and change how we all experience living environments, and the Tiny Home project encompasses that in so many ways.”

In addition to agency support, Flying Camel has enlisted product donations for the tiny homes from their client brands, including door hardware and security brand Schlage, surfaces manufacturer Cosentino, architectural hardware and furniture fittings provider Häfele, and small kitchen appliance designer, maker and distributor Hamilton Beach.

“We are thrilled that our partnership with Flying Camel will move this exciting new Tiny home pilot forward,” says Eden Grodzinski, CEO, HFHHMD. “Habitat’s partners power our work. In addition to funding the crucial elements to build homes, our donors also support the people and ideas that will drive solutions to Canada’s affordable housing crisis.”

Following the growing popularity around small space living and sustainable building construction, the homes will have living space up to 250 sq. ft and will be fully furnished and equipped with everything required as a single or small family dwelling.

“We are honoured to be supporting such a valuable cause and excited to see how the pilot program unfolds in the coming months,” adds Wood.
